Captain John P. Long, one of the most prominent early settlers. Spoke of the prosperity the community had enjoyed just before and during removal days, and said it was determined by the people that the town should have a name other than one expressing the idea of a mere landing. A meeting was called at the schoolhouse for the purpose of selecting a name. Numbers were proposed, of which Albion.
