Zur Zeit, als Marty seine Artikel zu schreiben begann, lagen die Verhältnisse noch ganz anders. Die Nativisten waren durchwegs tonangebend. Umso größer aber das Verdienst Martys, der damals allein, ganz vereinsamt den hochangesehenen S teinth al bekämpfte und sich durch keinerlei literarische Praktiken in der Verteidigung seines Standpunktes wankend machen ließ, was ja jeder unbefangene Leser der zehn Artikel - anerkennen muß. Ebenso unbeirrt trat er aber auch dem damals in der Sprach philosophie aufstrebenden Wundt entgegen, den er zu mannig fachen offenen und verhüllten Zugeständnissen zwang.
