Description
Frederick Arthur Crisp (1851-1922) ran a private press for one purpose: to print, exactly and in small numbers, the family documents that were passing through the salerooms and would otherwise vanish into private hands unread. Fragmenta Genealogica ran to thirteen volumes over twenty years, and this eleventh gathers marriage settlements, wills, parish extracts and deeds, each transcribed with its date, its parties and its provenance. The volumes were issued in editions of about 150 copies and are consequently scarce. For anyone working on English family history they remain a primary source, because for a good many of these documents Crisp's transcript is now the only text that exists. Fully indexed, with several thousand names. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1906 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
