Description
Part memoir, part cookbook, part legacy for the next generation, Food in a Life details the central role learning about, cooking and sharing food has had in the life of the author.
Born in 1956, the author, a retired GP, describes the dramatic changes in Britain’s food culture and his developing love of food, cooking and restaurant life from the 60s to the present day.
Interspersed with recipes from his youth, which still resonate today, he details some two hundred pages of his favourite recipes, from soups to chicken and meat dishes, vegetarian and BBQ food, Asian and Chinese cuisine, salads and desserts, and he even covers the cooking of a Christmas meal.
As he says in the forward of the book, recalling when he was considering simply writing a recipe book, ‘Food has been central to my life, so a food history, a food journey, seemed more appropriate than only a list of ingredients and the chemical process to make them into something more appetising.’
Hence ‘Food in a Life’.
My life.
My food.
