Description

Before hydrogeology there were serious men trying to work out, from first principles and from what wells and springs actually did, how water moves inside the earth. This 1724 treatise is one of those attempts: it reasons about the circulation of subterranean water, the formation of springs, and what can be inferred from the behaviour of the ground. The engraved plates — geometric constructions keyed to the chapters, each captioned « este borrador corresponde al capítulo… » — are how the argument is made, and they are reproduced here in full. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1724 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
