On September 8, 1906, she sailed for the Philippine Islands via the Suez Canal as ?ag ship of the Big - 4 Squadron, composed of the Maryland (now Frederick), Pennsylvania (now Pittsburgh), Colorado (now Pueblo). At that time she was the ?agship of Rear Admiral Bronson, who took command of the Asiatic Fleet when the ships arrived at Manila. During her stay in Asiatic waters she visited all the important seaport cities of China and Japan. After one year of service in the Far East she sailed for San Francisco via Honolulu. From 1907 to 1912 she made several trips to the Far East, and while cruising with the Pa cific Fleet she was the ?agship of several Rear Admirals. From 1912 to 1914 she lay at Brem erton, Wash, in the reserve ?eet, making only a few short trips.
