Description
Atanasio Lopez (1876-1944) was a Franciscan and one of the most exacting medievalists Spain produced in his generation, working chiefly on the archives of his own order. These critical-historical studies apply that discipline to Galicia: charters weighed, foundation legends tested, chroniclers checked against the documents they claimed to follow. It is unglamorous work of the kind that makes later history possible, written by a man who preferred to establish one fact than to narrate a hundred. Entered the public domain in January 2025.
