While the act of sex initially secures her fame and fortune, those rewards are tragically fleeting and she rapidly devolves into prostitution as her only means of survival. This play presents sexuality and violence very candidly, to the point that it might make more sensitive readers uncomfortable or upset. A novelty when first printed, this play still pushes the limits of what individuals might feel is acceptable to explore in literature.
While tragic in nature, Erdgeist (Earth-Spirit) a Tragedy in Four Acts is a wonderful example of an epic play when paired with its sister work.
