Description
Before Iberian, Celtiberian and Tartessian had names, they were simply the unknown letters on old Spanish coins. Luis Jose Velazquez de Velasco, marques de Valdeflores, gathered them, sorted them, and tried to establish their values — the first systematic assault on scripts that would not be substantially deciphered for another two centuries. He was wrong about a great deal and right about the method: collect, compare, publish the evidence. The seven plates of coins, medals and inscribed objects are the heart of the book, and the reason it is still cited by epigraphers who have long discarded its conclusions.
