Sinn als Kunstwerk betrachten, haben wir noch gar nichts über ihr Wesen ausgesagt. „was gut ge schrieben ist, ist ein Kunstwerk, ist eine gut ge schriebene Annonce oder Tagesneuigkeit auch eine Dichtung? Hier sehe ich, was Dich in einer solchen Auffassung der Kritik so stört: die Anarchie; das Leugnen der Form, damit ein sich souverän dünkender Intellekt mit Möglichkeiten jeder Art frei seine Spiele treiben könne. Wenn ich aber hier von dem Essay als einer Kunstform spreche, so tue ich es im Namen der Ordnung (also fast rein symbolisch und un eigentlich); nur aus der Empfindung heraus, dafs er eine Form hat, die ihn mit endgültiger Gesetzes strenge von allen anderen Kunstformen trennt Ich versuche den Essay so scharf wie überhaupt moglich zu isolieren eben dadurch, dafs ich ihn jetzt als Kunstform bezeichne.
