Die Stictopterinae gleichen den vorigen in zeitweilig massenhaftem Auftreten und manche zeigen eine derartig weitgehende Variation, dass man unter Hunderten kaum einige ganz gleiche Stücke herausfindet. Sie stehen aber mit ihrer Hauptwurzel in Indien und nur vereinzelte, wenig auffällige Arten verbreiten sich über Afrika, Madagaskar und kleinere Inseln.
