Description
The Royal Colleges of Surgery were the great Spanish reform of the eighteenth century in medicine: they took surgery out of the barber's shop and gave it a curriculum. This is the venereal course as Josef Antonio Capdevila delivered it at Barcelona, printed for the use of the college's own masters — that is, teaching material rather than a treatise for the public. What it preserves is the state of the doctrine before the germ theory: the classifications, the mercurial treatments, the prognoses, all set out with the confidence of a school that believed it had the matter in hand. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1782 Barcelona edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
