Description

Richard Ford (1796-1858) spent three years riding through Spain in the 1830s and spent the rest of his life writing it up. His handbook made him the most quoted foreign authority on the country, and the shorter book gathered from it is the one people actually read: opinionated, funny, frequently unfair, and observant in a way that no official account of Spain had been. Reading him in Castilian, in Enrique de Mesa y Rosales's translation, adds a second interest to the first — a nation reading the foreigner's verdict on itself, in its own language. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1922 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
