In this volume the Montana Historical Library presents the remainder of. The contributions of Lieutenant James H. Bradley. Other manuscripts of his were published in Volumes II, III and VIII. His work, based upon close observation and information obtained largely from first hand sources, began in 1871 when he was stationed at frontier army posts, most of the time at Fort Benton and Fort Shaw, and ended with his death in the Battle of the Big Hole in 1877.
