Description
A collection of recent advances is a snapshot of what a profession believes it has just learned, and is therefore more revealing than any treatise. Assembled in 1766, this one shows Spanish medicine attentive to what was arriving from London, Leiden and Paris, and eager to have it in Castilian. Some of the advances endured; a good many were fashions that a decade would dispose of. Reading them together, without knowing which is which, is the closest one can come to the position of a physician of the time — who also did not know.
