Description
Founded in 1877, the Museo de Reproducciones Artisticas gathered plaster casts and copies of the great works of antiquity and the Renaissance so that Spanish students and artists could study them without leaving Madrid. This first catalogue of 1881 records the collection room by room, with the provenance of each cast.It is a document of the nineteenth-century cast museum — a form of institution that shaped art teaching across Europe and has since largely disappeared. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1881 Madrid edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
