Description

Excerpt from Calendar of Documents Relating to Scotland, Vol. 2: Preserved in Her Majesty's Public Record Office, London

On 19th August a safe conduct issues from the English Chancery for herself and her brother John, to go through England to Scotland, and (ominously as it proved) to return within a year.

Long before that year was out the marriage was dissolved2 by Alexander's melancholy death on the cliffs between Burnt island and Kinghorn in Fifeshire, where he was thrown from his horse over a precipice (still called the King's Craig) and killed on the spot, on 19th March 1285 - 86.
