Excerpt from Biography of Gospel Song and Hymn Writers
The author found that to insert all the worthy names of gospel song and hymn writers in a single volume would make it too bulky it is hoped it may be possible to follow this work with a second volume. Beginning with Dr. Lowell Mason, the writer has endeavored to give a sketch and portrait of leading representatives of gospel song and hymn writers up to the present time. It is but natural that people should wish to know something of the lives, and be pleased to see the por traits of the composers whose songs and hymns have brought joy, peace and comfort to their hearts. It is confidently anticipated that the reading of these brief sketches will add new life and power to the gospel in song.
The author feels that in a measure Mr. J. 11. Fill more has made this volume of biography possible.
