Description
Ramón Merli y Feixas (1763-1838) published this in 1815, four decades before Snow took the handle off the Broad Street pump and seventy years before Koch. What he could offer was what the age had: isolation, ventilation, fumigation, the management of the sick and of the fear around them. Much of the reasoning rests on miasma and is simply wrong; a good deal of the practical advice — separate the sick, move the air, clean everything — happens to work anyway, for reasons the author could not have given. That gap between correct practice and mistaken theory is the whole interest of the book. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1815 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
