Paul and Sheila first visited the Baltic States in 2011. They now undertake a landward circumnavigation of the Baltic in their much-travelled VW Camper.
Their latest book follows the authors' five month long journey Around the Baltic.
This 8,700 miles journey starts and ends at Lübeck, passing through Northern Germany and along the Pomeranian coast of Poland. After full exploration of the Baltic States, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, the return journey crosses the Gulf of Finland to Helsinki, and follows the Baltic seaboard through Southern Finland, the Islands of Turku Archipelago and Åland Islands. Across the Bothnian Gulf, the journey concludes around Sweden's South-East coast, finally re-crossing the Baltic from Trelleborg to its start-point at Lübeck.
These detailed travelogues give insightful coverage and analysis of their journey of exploration; the places they visited, the sights they witnessed, and the people they met.
The book includes coverage of the Baltic States' turbulent history from their earliest settlement and their long centuries of foreign occupation and exploitation, through to post-WW2 Soviet occupation, and their final emergence as independent European sovereign republics in 1991.
Accompanying the travelogues, the book gives unparalleled photographic record illustrating the travels with over 700 colour photos. The journey is also fully mapped, enabling the reader to follow the authors in a meaningful way on their travels Around the Baltic.
The result is a uniquely comprehensive guide and reference book for the Baltic region, produced by seasoned travellers.
