Description
Phil Lo Bao's 'An Illustrated History of British European Airways' was first published in 1989, fifteen years after BEA had been absorbed into a new flag carrier, British Airways. To mark the eightieth anniversary of BEA's foundation, the book has now been updated and amended and is once again available, an enduring testament to the many men and women who made BEA the world class airline that was able to style itself justifiably as 'Number One in Europe'.
The book is laid out chronologically, with a chapter covering each of the 28 years of BEA's existence. It includes comprehensive appendices with summaries of services operated, a full leet list, and a summary of the accidents and other safety incidents involving BEA aircraft.
In the book's foreword, Sir Henry Marking, BEA's Chairman and Chief Executive, states:
'It is certainly the most complete history of BEA that has ever been written, but it is also probably one of the most detailed ever written of any airline in the world.'
