The Master and Wardens of the Mercers'' Company have asked me to write a short history of the Company for the information of their members, and particularly as I understand of their younger members, with a View not only to show them the good work which their predecessors had done for their Company and for the City of London, but also to induce them to profit by the example set them from ancient times.
