In 1943 the authors compiled a pamphlet in answer to questions raised by communities served by Eastern Air Lines, as well as by others contemplating airport projects, which received a ready response. The demand for a more complete and detailed coverage of the subject prompted the writing of this book. Consultations with airport engineers and other interested persons confirmed the fact that a modern treatise on the fundamentals governing airport planning and design was lacking, and in View of the rapid expansion of aviation and the tremendous impetus given to the airplane during the last few years, there is need for such a book.
