Learning tbat tbis historyi of tbe Munros was in prepara tion, I entered into correspondence witb Mr. Mackenzie, and was so far fortunate as to induce bim to include in bis genealogy as many of tbe American brancbes of tbe Munro Clan as tbe limited time before publication would permit us to follow up. His un timely deatb on tbe 22d of 7anuary, 1898, and tbe long illness preceding bis lamented decease, made it impossible for bim to realize tbis plan fartber tban 1, witb little time and still less experience in matters genealogical, bad been able under bis direction to carry it. Tbercfore it is tbat tbe only American brancb of tbe clan to appear in Mr. Mackenzie's History is tbat of pvil/iam Munro, tbe first settler of tbe name in Lexington, Massacbusetts.
