It ought to be stated that, for reasons which will be found in their proper place, there was a want of materials for a minute and full biography; and therefore nothing more has been pi''o'' posed than to give a mere sketch, or general account of his life. The materials for this have been obtained from different sources Some things have been taken from the records of the church ju dicatories to which he belonged; others from communications furnished by two or three of his oldest pupils who are yet living, which are hereby most cheerfully and gratefully acknowledged; and a few more have been gathered in conversation with the most aged people in his congregations; but the principal part has been furnished by the surviving members of his family.
