It is worthy of remark, that Mr. Toland resided at Glasgow during the years 1688 and 1689, the two last of the Bloody Persecution of the Church of Scotland, and must have been an eye witness of many tyranni. Cal and relentless scenes. It is well known, that the students of Glasgow, as a collective body, repeatedly joined the citizens, in repelling several of the military parties sent against them; and there can hardly ra main a doubt, that Toland made one of the number, This sufficiently accounts for the Certificate given him by the Magistrates of Glasgow.
