By Act of Legislature of Feb. 26th, 1803, a considerable part of the ancient proprietary of Freetown was detached and erected into a township named Fall River (changed to Troy in 1804, and again to its present name in the first corporate existence of the place now known all over the globe as, with one exception, the largest cloth-producing community on its surface.
