Thus the Work has to a great extent been collected, translated, and arranged whilst passing through the press. This must be my apology for the many imperfections which will be found in it the absence of order, and occasional repetitions. I have been feeling my way all along and have discovered that there exists among the people a vast store of interesting traditional tales, which may yet be col lected 5 and it is possible that I have only just learnt the way of col leeting them. I have already several of considerable interest, which will appear, it is supposed, in a Second Volume.
