Description

"

Archaeological investigations were carried out between 2020 and 2021 along the Viking Link Interconnector cable scheme in south-east Lincolnshire. The Interconnector route traversed three distinct landscapes – the Lincolnshire Marsh, the Lincolnshire Wolds and the northern Fens – on its 67 km course between landfall on the North Sea coast near Mablethorpe and its terminal at an electricity substation at Bicker Fen. The project offered the opportunity to explore the archaeology of a part of the country that has seen few excavations of a similar scale.

This volume contains an overview of the sea level changes that had a key influence on the archaeological character of the early landscape, followed by summaries of the sites excavated along the Interconnector route. Its subsequent focus is on how the project has improved the understanding of the archaeology and historical landscape of south-east Lincolnshire.
