L 33. For every school, therefore, books of this kind should be written,-in accordance with the rules already laid down for the attainment of ease, thoroughness, and economy of time, - and should constitute a complete, thorough, and accurate epitome of all the subjects of instruction. In short, they should give a true representa tion of the entire universe, which can thus be impressed upon the minds of the scholars. They should also, and this is a most important point, be written simply and clearly, and should give the scholars sufficient assistance to enable them, if necessary, to pursue their studies with out the help of a teacher.
