When views of religious truth are advanced, whlch either really or apparently differ from such as are com monly accepted, the difference will often be referable to causes that lie back of the arguments by which they are maintained - some peculiarity of temperament, some struggle of personal history, unknown to the public, the assumption or settlement of some supposed law or prin ciple of judgment, which affects, of course, all subordinate decisions.
