And it is a fact happily confirming the foregoing, that the large mass of those in our State, now struggling for the free dom of the slave, are moral and religious men. Conscience is at the bottom of the move, and conscience we need more fully to enlist.
Also, as the Christian Church in our land has a controlling in?uence in modelling the public sentiment and laws of the land, either for good or for evil, it is all-important that her action should be right on this subject. And as she is de signed to be the salt of the land, to purify it from its vices, it is high time that she was up and doing.
