Da es, um ein richtiges Urteil uber Trithemius zu ge winnen, erwünscht, ja unerlässlich sein dürfte, das Gebiet zu kennen, auf welchem er zunächst seine Wirksamkeit entfaltete, habe ich als ersten Teil die Geschichte des Klosters Sponheim, in welchem er als Mönch eintrat und als Abt seinen Hohe punkt erreichte, vorausgeschickt bis zu ihm herauf, und her nach, um dem Interesse Genüge zu thun, das sich seinet wegen an dies Kloster heftet, im dritten Teile auch noch über die Geschicke desselben bis zu seiner gänzlichen Auf lösung berichtet.
