This book is my tribute and monument to the family whose name I have the honor to bear. With great gratitude for the privilege of compiling and publishing this history, I send it forth upon its mission of information and good cheer. May it gladden and bless every reader'' Out of my promise to read a history at the first Zartman reunion in 1908 this volume has developed. To fulfil that engage ment it was necessary to make extensive research and thorough investigation. So much that was new and interesting was dis covered that I resolved, if possible, I would make these materials accessible to others in this permanent form.
