Description

Excerpt from A History of Isaac Howard, of Foster, Rhode Island: And His Descendants Who Have Borne the Name of Howard

The material for the sketches of Isaac. Howard and his sons has been derived mainly from original public records and from private records in the possession of the family of his grandson, Judge Daniel Howard, supplemented by statements made by Judge Howard and his brother, Rev. Gardner Howard, about twenty-five years ago and committed to writing at that time by Rev. Walter J. Yates. The information regarding one son, Thomas, has been furnished by two of Thomas''s grandchildren, now living, Mrs. Eunice Howard Spicer and Orrin Howard. The material for the sketches of the descend ants that follow has been derived as far as possible from public records, but the main source of information for the statistical parts has been family''bibles and other family records and in some cases inscriptions on tombstones. The narrative portions of the history have been obtained from the families themselves. Many con?icts between dates and other details obtained from different sources have been difficult and sometimes impossible to reconcile. In such cases those dates and details that seemed to be the most reliable have been used. That no mistakes have been made is not to be supposed, but great pains has been taken to make the number as few as possible.
