Description

BY THE SAME AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR RHYMES FOR NO REASON, RHYMES OF THE NEWFANGLED MARINER, THE CURSE OF THE SQUARE CROW
These three volumes are the previous books of humorous or philosophical poetry from Dick Dixon and
Reine Mazoyer – as if there were a shortage of it! Actually though, I do wonder, as surveying the libraries
of the world (an ongoing task) has not actually revealed a noticeable excess of this kind of material. I
am now thinking that maybe we are indeed suffering a dearth of these valuable insights – and hence the
current volume that you are probably holding now, namely ‘In Bed with the Cats’ Pyjamas’ has appeared,
in a vain attempt to correct the balance.
There are many mysteries to be explained in this strange and sometimes terrifying world, but there is
a hope that a study of the poems in these books might bring forth answers of a kind. To take a simple
example – how can you deal with an elephant in the room? Then again, do you need counselling to come
to terms with the fact that you are practically nothing – just a few atoms and stuff nobody else could use?
Do bulldogs have a secret agenda? That is the question. What if things go badly wrong on your stag night?
The poem does not really offer a solution, but at least perhaps it will warn you about the worst possible
outcomes.
In these curious volumes we attempt to find solutions, or at least discuss some of the more unusual
problems of our age, but who is to say with confidence that none will be your burden at some future time.
Would it not be wise to make preparations?
Each book contains more than thirty mostly rhyming poems, accompanied by brilliant illustrations in
full colour by the well-known French artist Reine Mazoyer. I have no hesitation in saying that I believe
that as usual, she has done a wonderful job.
A word on availability of these books may be useful. They are all available by consulting the website
www.dick-dixon.com, where you will see more details about them. ‘Rhymes of the Newfangled Mariner’
and ‘The Curse of the Square Crow’ can both be purchased from the Mereo website ( www.mereobooks.
com ), which is best if a book of a high quality is required, or from Amazon, where you will need to
write in the book’s name most probably.
