Description

Andrés Piquer (1711-1772) taught at Valencia and became physician to the king, and he spent his career arguing that medicine should follow Hippocrates in method rather than any school in doctrine: watch the patient, record the course, and distrust the system that explains everything. His treatise on fevers is where that programme is worked out in practice, on the commonest and deadliest presentation a physician then faced. It is the central work of the Spanish medical Enlightenment, and it reads as an argument about how to know, not merely a list of what was known. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1751 Valencia edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
