The Sundering Flood was William Morris’ last work of fiction, the ending dictated on his deathbed to his daughter May. It is set in a medieval fantasy world where two lovers, Osberne and Elfhild, are separated by a huge river, the Sundering Flood. Elfhild vanishes during a raid by the Red Skinners, whereupon Osberne takes up his magical sword and sets off in search of her.William Morris (1834-1896) is best known as a designer of fabrics, wallpaper, tapestries, furniture, and stained glass windows. He was also a poet, artist, novelist, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist, in fact one of the most culturally significant figures of Victorian Britain. His best-known literary works include The Earthly Paradise (1868–1870), A Dream of John Ball (1888), News from Nowhere (1890), and the fantasy romance The Well at the World’s End (1896)..
