The Creation in Image and Word

Prior to The Creation found in Genesis there was only God. We are alerted to this with the first verse of Genesis when God begins The Creation. Why God had a need and desire to create the world is within God’s absolute existence. It is a question which cannot be answered by humanity. We can only begin to grasp the meaning of The Creation through a critical evaluation of God’s Creation.

To begin to understand God’s Plan we must delve closely into what is available to us. I start with the Biblical Hebrew God used to interact with humanity. Each word in these early Genesis chapters is a gift to be understood in its fullest. This book interprets the original Hebrew using various techniques.

As I discuss the translations of the Hebrew I occasionally will look at how a word is used elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible. Occasionally the meaning differs from verse to verse making the word’s exact meaning more difficult to grasp. This duality of understanding allows for alternative interpretations of the same text. Religious thinkers used this variety of context to interpret new possibilities of meaning. Their purpose was not to confuse but to generate and inspire the reader to think in new deeper meanings. I provide in my writings many of these different understandings along with some new ones to prompt the reader to think in new perspectives.

This book developed out of a photo exhibition I presented in 2021. I felt my first image, Before the Creation, needed some explanation so I included a short commentary as part of that image. I then felt my other images would be better received if they also included some explanation. When I was asked to display my series a second time I decided to expand my commentary for each image. What had been a short paragraph expanded into chapters. What began as a photo exhibition started an unexpected journey of photojournalism and religious exploration.

The Creation for many is a story one learned as a child. It has been understood by many as a children's fairytale. Travel on a journey as we take an in-depth look behind the words and their meaning for our world today.

Each chapter of the book includes one of the original color human made images by the artist-writer from the author's 2021 photo exhibition.
