Description
A magical wildflower adventure inspired by one of Ireland's rarest plants.
The Seaside Summer Festival is almost here, and Clovis the fairy is excited to join the celebrations. She dreams of making a cosy new coat to keep warm in the cool coastal breeze, inspired by the soft, silvery leaves of the rare and beautiful Cottonweed.
There is just one problem—Cottonweed is one of Ireland's rarest wildflowers and can now only be found in a very special corner of County Wexford.
Determined to find it, Clovis sets off on an adventure with her friend Dax. Along the way, they are joined by Benny the Beetle, a cheerful helper who knows every winding path through the dunes and along the shoreline. Together, they explore sandy beaches, rolling dunes, and wild coastal habitats filled with fascinating plants and creatures.
When they finally discover the precious Cottonweed growing among the dunes, Clovis realises just how rare and important it is. Instead of picking the endangered plant, she chooses to admire its beauty and leave it safely where it belongs. Inspired by the bright pink and blue flowers of Borage, which grows more abundantly nearby, she finds another way to create something wonderful for the festival.
Filled with gentle rhyming verse, charming fairy characters, and beautiful wildflower themes, The Cottonweed introduces children to one of Ireland's most endangered native plants while encouraging a love of nature, conservation, and the outdoors.
