A mysterious symbol leads Maya Vale, her younger brother Leo, junior museum guide Amira Khan and Tick, a sharp-tongued clockwork raven, to Greywake Lighthouse—a tower that should no longer exist.

Its beam does not shine across the ocean.

It shines beneath it.

Far below the waves lies Pelagia Academy, a hidden school of ocean science protected inside the mysterious Stillwater Interval. Its Tide Doors allow researchers to compare the same reef, current or habitat at different dates. But somebody has removed a scientific control, altered important samples and changed the evidence being used to predict the ocean’s future. 

A research drone has returned from a possible future carrying a bottle of lifeless water. Its recordings reveal the White Silence—a once-thriving reef now covered in pale coral, missing fish and dangerously low oxygen.

Inside the drone is a warning:

DO NOT BELIEVE THE OFFICIAL SAMPLE.
THE CONTROL WAS REMOVED.

Yet the academy’s official report blames twelve-year-old pupil Tala Noor and her harmless glowing plankton culture. Tala insists her classroom tank never opened, but the school’s records are changing—and even her own memories may not remain reliable. 

Then Silent Protocol begins its countdown.

Unless the mystery is solved before dawn, the remaining samples will be destroyed, the Tideglass archive will reset and the academy’s altered report will be transmitted as the official truth.
