Description
Street-wise Ricardo lives in Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil, which is located in Rio de Janeiro. Ricardo has a tough life and has been taught to be a pick-pocket and steal from the visitors to Rio. On one carnival day Ricardo has a strange encounter with a young boy who tries to attack him, Ricardo thinks about hitting the boy, but doesn’t and then finds the boy is writhing in agony on the floor as though he had. Later Ricardo sees the young boy again and takes pity on him and buys him a bowl of stew from a street vendor.. The boy gives Ricardo a tourmaline gemstone as a thank you and tells him this will help to protect him from the ‘darkness’. Ricardo and the boy find themselves transported to a magical world called Turmali, where aliens have invaded and are trying to destroy this beautiful world.
