Description
This book traces the family origins of Josiah Nixon from the Staffordshire Potteries to the mining village of Hemsworth, Yorkshire. It relates the lives and challenges of seven generations of the Nixon line before focussing on the World War One experiences of Josiah and his best friend, Percy Wootton. Supported by their wives, Gertrude and Amy (both née Simmons), they served on the Western Front in the Royal Field Artillery. This genealogical book shows that the Industrial Revolution produced some human challenges that arguably matched those of the Great War.
[Includes several period paintings of the Potteries by artist Sid Kirkham]
