Description
Pedro de Angelis (1784-1859) came from Naples with a classical training and a European reputation, settled in Buenos Aires, and spent the rest of his life there — publishing, arguing, and assembling the documentary collection on the Río de la Plata that remains his monument. He also wrote for the papers, at a moment when writing for the papers in Buenos Aires meant taking a side in a quarrel that would end in exile or worse for many of the participants. This small collection gathers those pieces as he wanted them read, and shows the polemical daily work behind the scholarly reputation. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1833 Buenos Aires edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
