Description
A Ground Truth Adventure
A material that should not exist. A discovery the world may not survive.
When Nova Vale and Rook Mercer travel to the remote Kharad Plateau, they expect to examine a disputed rare-earth sample with unusual electromagnetic behaviour.
Instead, they discover the Ghost Element.
It is not truly an element. It is an extraordinary structure formed from several materials, precisely arranged vacancies and repeating channels capable of redirecting energy. Under controlled conditions, it can make an object harder to detect by radar, heat, sound and magnetic sensors.
Its possible civilian uses could transform medical imaging, energy systems, transport and communications.
Its military potential could transform the balance of power.
Vantrel Aerospace has already used fragments of the material in Wraith, an experimental unmanned aircraft designed to reduce several detectable signatures at once. Governments arrive. Rival research teams close in. Classified convoys cross the plateau, while every organisation insists that its interest is defensive, scientific or necessary.
But Nova notices that the project maps exclude the people living beside the discovery. Springs are changing. Drilling reaches places local records say should remain untouched. The town of Narin has been promised jobs, roads and investment, yet the people carrying the environmental risk have the least control over the data.
Rook discovers something even more unsettling. The Ghost Element is not simply ore waiting to be mined. The working fragments may have been cut from a much larger engineered structure hidden beneath the mountains—an ancient system whose purpose nobody fully understands.
When material disappears, unauthorised tests begin and the Wraith aircraft becomes dangerously difficult to track, Nova and Rook are pulled into a race involving sabotage, strategic secrecy, failing water systems and a technology that can vanish from the very instruments meant to keep it safe.
To prevent catastrophe, they must decide what knowledge should be published, what must remain restricted and who has the authority to make that choice.
Because the real question is not whether humanity can build the next generation of stealth technology.
It is whether anyone should.
The Ghost Element is a high-stakes science adventure for readers aged 12–16, blending geology, materials science, archaeology, aerospace technology, environmental risk and international suspense.
Perfect for readers who enjoy futuristic aircraft, secret research programmes, ancient technology, mountain expeditions and morally complex mysteries where every side possesses part of the truth.
The novel establishes that the “Ghost Element” is a multi-material structure rather than a single atom, while the Wraith programme attempts to use working fragments from a larger buried system it does not fully understand.
