Description
Little did the interviewing panel of West Sussex Ambulance service in 1975 realise when employing Brian Janman as an ambulanceman that he was a historian in the making. By the end of the 1970s Brian had started to collect photographs of old ambulances and was always keen to hear stories about the past history of service. At every opportunity he would question colleagues about their photos and stories, carefully recording their answers.
Over the years, Brian compiled a huge archive of photographs and sundry printed material relating to the development of the ambulance service in West Sussex. From this collection, and spanning a period of over 100 years, this carefully researched book will bring back many memories to all those who have been involved in the service.
Brian Janman has written two more books on the ambulance services in the southeast of England: Sussex Ambulance & First Aid Services (which covers the entire county, East & West Sussex) and Kent Ambulance & First Aid Services. Both are published by Woodfield.
