Description
When her eldest son was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of six, Hazel Carr committed herself to support him in the classroom. While helping other children facing similar hurdles, she unearthed a passion for special needs education, prompting her to train as a teaching assistant. Over the years, she pursued various courses to enhance her understanding of the challenges she encountered daily with the children she assisted. In 2002, she took part in a course on dyspraxia, and with her school's support, she launched a successful exercise program.
Now, after making a positive impact on over one hundred children, Hazel experiences great joy in witnessing the growth and potential of the young individuals she has supported. Eager to share her insights with other parents and educators, she has hosted workshops at schools, appeared on radio shows, written articles, and developed her own free website. This platform has garnered interest from around the world, including the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, and various regions of the UK.
During her research on dyspraxia, Hazel observed that much of the literature on the topic was overly technical, filled with statistics, graphs, and jargon that made it challenging for everyday readers to engage with. In response, she resolved to write a book that would answer common questions from staff and parents, using clear and accessible language.
The outcome is this book, which not only fulfils her objective but also provides a heartfelt and entertaining depiction of the challenges faced by those living and working with children with special needs, celebrating the joys of being able to support them.
