Description
Excerpt from A Manual of Chemistry, Descriptive and Theoretical, Vol. 1
This Manual purposes, not only to satisfy a want felt, it is believed, by many teachers of Chemistry, but also to show how the employment of unitary formulae facilitates the generalisation of chemical truths.
The views, of which it is an exponent, are based on those originally promulgated by Laurent and Gerhardt in France. They are now adopted by a large section of English chemists, particularly by Professors Williamson, Brodie, and Hofmann, whose researches have contributed greatly to their development.
