A N D indeed I have often wondered, that a mong fo many truly learned and capable men, who have diftinguiihcd themfelves in all kinds of learning, that Ireland hath produced during the hit, and in this age, none of them have ever ap plied to féparate what is certain of their hiliory, and grounded upon folid monuments of antiquity, written in times of light and learning, from what is uncertain, and hath no Other foundation but the traditions or writings of their Seanadyier and bards, in order to give a true hli''tory of the coun try fincc. The times of St. Patrick and king Let aire; both civil and facred; whilfborbers, fuch as Keating, 0 Hebert], Sec. Render all uncertain, by putting on an equal level, and delivering, and that on the fole credit of the bards, the accounts of their hi?ory from almolt the deluge of Naab.
