Description
Excerpt from The Bible Psalter: Being the Authorized Version of the Psalms, Pointed for Chanting, and with Chants Adapted Thereto, or Specially Composed for this Work
Single Chm In Single Chants a musical close, or full stop, occurs after every verse, which continually mars the sense, and if one of these Half Chants be used for a long Psalm the result is tedious and monotonous. For although a verse complete in itself is occasionally found, and, on the other hand, a phrase or paragraph sometimes extends over three or four verses, these are exceptional occurrences. Therefore both on the ground of antiphonal con struction and two-verse form, and it must be added on account of greater musical interest, the Whole or Double has claims not possessed by the Half, the Triple, or the Quadruple Chant.
